CHARLESTOWN, Rhode Island

CHARLESTOWN, RI.

Did you know that it is named after King Charles II, and was incorporated in 1738?

We are talking about approximately 60 acres of which approximately 37 square miles of it is land and the rest 22.5 square miles is water. So this special place, still pristine, noncommercial; and is one of South County’s best kept secrets.

Charlestown has 4 BEACHES:    7 miles of pristine white sandy beaches offer swimming, kayaking, clamming, bird watching, jet skiing and fishing just to name a few outdoor activities.

BLUE SHUTTERS Town Beach: is a family oriented beach town owned and managed. Life guards on duty.

EAST BEACH: an unspoiled barrier beach 3 miles long. Limited parking, so on a nice summer day earlier the better.

CHARLESTOWN TOWN BEACH:   A classic array of cottages on stilts line the edge of the dunes and frame the sandy beach. Parking is good and life guards on duty.

QUNNOCONTAUG BEACH:   is one of the few privately owned beaches in Rhode  Island. Swimming areas are restricted to property owners and a beach pass is required.

Charlestown is only 10 miles east or west to South Kingstown or Westerly which have conveniences such as shopping and chain stores.
